Cosmetics4: My Current Organization
February 16, 2012 in Uncategorized
The first three posts:
Once I started to wear makeup, I felt the need to always carry every single makeup item with me. I would pack every product I owned into a makeup bag, and then cram that makeup bag into my purse. I lugged this around EVERYWHERE. It didn’t matter where I going or what I was doing, I had my makeup. Fountain, powders, multiple shades of eyeshadow, lipsticks, liner, etc. I did this for YEARS.
I’m appalled by some of the stuff I used to do.
But, hey, I was a kid.
I’ve always kept a Caboodle, but during my “must-carry-all-products-on-my-person-at-all-times-cuz-I-might-need-it” phase, I didn’t really keep makeup in the makeup case.
Several years back (early twenties maybe?) I started to wise up, and began leaving most of my products at home during the day.
But since my mid-twenties to currently, I now leave it ALL at home. I mean, sure, if I’m going to be gone a while, I’ll toss a few touch-up items in my purse, but 99% of the time, I leave it all at home….where it belongs. My purse is much smaller and lighter than it has ever been. I like this. (Of course, it must be taken into consideration that I’m a stay-at-home mom and I rarely go anywhere other than the grocery store.)
My caboodle, until recently, sit on my bathroom counter, holding all my makeup products, my skin care products, and a few other items.
However, I have always had a “problem” with makeup bags and cases. Let me explain….
Everybody has quirks. You have quirks, and I have quirks. I think I may have more quirks than the average bear, but oh well.
One of my quirks is that I HATE for all my makeup to be piled up together in a bag or case and the way everything rubs against each other. The reason I hate this is because all the pretty labels rub off the containers, the shine of the containers goes dull, and everything just gets grungy in general. Ugh.
I realize this may be silly and shouldn’t bug me, but IT DOES.
Sooo….the case I have been using for the last few years has been getting very worn and dirty, and I have never liked the lack of organization of it anyway.
As I was watching some makeup videos on Youtube one day, it occurred to me……I don’t need to keep my junk in a bag. I’m going to keep it in my dresser!! (Note: I have heard on numerous occasions recently that it is not good to store your makeup in the bathroom because the steam from the shower can be very damaging to it.)
I took a clean, white towel, and folded it into the shape of my drawer. At first I just had everything laid out on the towel…like so…..
…..but then I decided to get some little plastic baskets from the dollar store to make it look more organized. I don’t have as much room this way, but I do like the way it looks. Btw, the little baskets were 3 for $1.
Here’s how my makeup drawer currently looks. Though I’m positive after some time passes, I’ll likely want to do something entirely different.
(I apologize for the darkness of these pictures. My dresser is in a corner of my bedroom that gets zero natural light. )

Angle 2:
If I ever get a good train case, I’d probably just put everything into that, and then put all my camisoles back into their drawer. But right now, I really like this setup. Everything is laid out in a pattern, and most importantly, it keeps my toddler from digging in/playing with my makeup. Which he LOVES to do.
And just to give you the full tour, so to speak, here is the top of my dresser….
I have a basket that contains perfumes, along with my daily deodorant, lotion, and a little extra moisturizer that I wasn’t completely happy with.
On the other side of the dresser in this…..
I really like having everything all in one place. With my makeup right next to my perfume, I always remember to spritz on some “smell-good-stuff”. I rarely remembered to wear perfume when it wasn’t next to my makeup.
Note:
Having all my makeup organized and spread out in my dresser drawer makes it seem that I have way more than I really do. If my skin care products, tools I don’t always use, and unopened items were not a factor, I could easily fit the makeup I use on my face everyday into a small makeup bag.
In later posts, I will deconstruct “The Makeup Drawer” and show you a few things from my shower as well.

This is awesome. I love getting sneak peeks into stuff like this…Love the organization! I’ll have to take pictures of my stuff too. NOT organized at all. It’s thrown together. Not one of my quirks.
You have a lot of perfume…I have more body sprays than perfume. Again, aside from the three I wear most often, all jumbled together.
I feel the need to now organize EVERYTHING in all these departments. You’ve shamed me. HA!
Love it!
When I was working, and I had the extra money, I bought a lot of perfume. It is one of my weaknesses. I love the stuff. I haven’t bought any in a loooong time though.
I like sneak peeks too and I would LOVE to see a picture of your stuff. Make that happen for me.
I agree Lori, I love all this sneak peakin’
We want to see what’s in your hand bag next!
My pits and I thought about you in the shower this morning….
BWHAHAHA!!!!!
I was going to send you a Facebook message to tell you that my pits and I thought about you and your office mates this morning in the shower. lol
I’ve always liked the idea of doing a “what’s in my bag” thing. I’ll do that.
Though it will be very uninteresting.
I love it!!! I have found that I actually enjoy the daily makeup ritual since I don’t have to dig for each item. Organization makes such a different. Im frusrated that I didn’t do something about the mess that was my makeup case sooner.
I’m frustrated that I didn’t do something sooner too. There is just something about having a very girly space all to your own that is comforting and satisfying.
