You know the question, “If you could only wear one makeup item, what would it be?’”

(Moisturizers and sunscreen are not applicable in this question. They get their own category.)

Mine is mascara. Hands down.

However, I would really like that question to be adjusted so that I could have at least TWO makeup items.

Because a really good pressed powder is my other must have.

In fact, I could easily wear nothing but these two products on a normal day and be totally content. Of course, I DON’T do that, but I COULD.

I think trying to find the perfect mascara is every girls ongoing personal annoyance, but about eight years ago, I FOUND IT. For eight years I never bought another mascara.

Almay Triple Effect Waterproof mascara.

I found out a few weeks ago that it was discontinued, and I was so annoyed. I had to start my search all over for my perfect mascara. (In fact, my mascara search is the original trigger of this entire cosmetic series.)

They are still producing the regular version of this, but I only use waterproof mascara. If it’s not waterproof, it doesn’t go on my lashes.

I want my mascara to stay on, without smudging or running, until I take it off. I can not stress enough how firmly I feel about this. I almost HATE regular mascaras.

Now, unless you have a really good eye makeup remover, like this……

…..waterproof mascara can be darn near impossible to get off. But I like knowing that when I put it on, it’s going to stay there until I take it off. This is important to me.

When it came time to look for a new mascara (I used my last Almay mascara until it was soooo dried out), I got on the internet and read reviews. I narrowed it down to a few, but when I went to the store, I went a little crazy. I decided to get several, and try them all out. Not at once, though, since they dry out quickly and I don’t want them to ruin. It will take me forever to use them all, but hopefully there will be one or two that will be my “go-to” mascara from now on. Or, until it’s discontinued and I have to do this all over again.

Yeah. I’m stocked up. I’m currently using the Lash Stiletto, and, well, it’s definitely not my old mascara. But it’s working. I use it with a lash primer, and the result is satisfactory.

About powder……

The best powder I have ever used was an Avon powder.

It was the Anew Age Transforming Powder.

I would buy 2 of these at a time. If I started to get low on this powder, I would get a little freaked out.

This powder provided serious coverage, looked amazing, it treated fines lines and wrinkles, had crazy awesome staying power, AND had an SPF of 25. It had nice packaging too. Yeah. Sounds awesome, right? Well, it was.

I would wear only this powder…no foundation, no concealer, no other kinds of powder. It was that good.

I used it for years, and then, of course, it was discontinued.

It was a traumatic experience for me.

I recently asked the Hub if he remembered the pressed powder I liked so much from Avon. He rolled his eyes and said, “Yes, because when you couldn’t get it anymore you would cuss and complain every time you put makeup on.” lol

I haven’t had this powder in ages. I’m still on the search for a replacement product that is its equal. I’m getting the feeling that I won’t find it. But in the meantime, I scour powder in stores, on the internet, and in catalogs.

I miss my Avon powder.

And that is my little rant on my two favorite makeup items.
